Theatre Aurora Shines Under a New Roof with Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant

Aurora, ON – On Friday night, just prior to the curtain rising on Theatre Aurora’s production of ‘Murder on the Orient Express’, MPP Michael Parsa formally congratulated the group on receiving a $143,600 Capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) in late 2023. This latest grant has been designated for crucial roof renovations, helping to  sustain cultural landmarks in the region.

“Theatre Aurora is a cultural cornerstone, fostering connections in the community by providing a vibrant platform for artistic expression. Through the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s 2023 Capital Grant stream, Theatre Aurora will be able to pursue infrastructure repairs to upkeep the building’s functionality,” said Hon. Michael Parsa, MPP for Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill. “Theatre Aurora is one of the pillars of our community, and this Capital Grant will support them in continuing to serve the people in a vibrant and inclusive environment.”

Joining MPP Michael Parsa were Mayor Tom Mrakas, OTF volunteer Janice McGurran and Barbara Jones, a Director of Theatre Aurora. The grant follows on the heels of work done of a previous OTF grant which significantly improved the theatre’s accessibility. The new roof is a pivotal enhancement, safeguarding the facility against the elements and ensuring a comfortable, uninterrupted experience for all patrons.

“The Ontario Trillium Foundation’s support has been instrumental to our growth and our ability to serve the community,” said Barbara Jones. “With a new roof over our heads, we can assure our audiences and performers that Theatre Aurora is not just a place to witness the performing arts but a safe and secure home for creativity to flourish.”

Theatre Aurora extends its deepest gratitude to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for their significant investment in the arts. This grant not only secures a tangible asset — the theatre’s roof — but also fortifies the intangible spirit of community that the theatre fosters.
