Preparing for the growing need for programs at the Alzheimer Society of York Region thanks to an OTF Grant from the Province
June 17, 2025
AURORA, ON – On Tuesday, MPP Michael Parsa met with the team at the Alzheimer Society of York Region to hear how a $185,200 Resilient Communities Fund grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is making an impact. Thanks to OTF, the Alzheimer Society of York Region (AS York) was able to build a four-year strategic plan, evaluate its revenue framework and evaluate and upgrade components of its technology infrastructure. It received a $185,200 Resilient Communities Fund grant from OTF in 2023 to help it rebuild and recover from the impacts of the pandemic and plan for future demand for programs and services.
“The incredible work of Alzheimer Society of York Region has been a crucial source of support for individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias in our community,” said Michael Parsa, MPP for Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill. “Through the $185,200 investment of the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Resilient Communities Fund, Alzheimer Society of York Region is recovering from the challenges of the pandemic while planning for the future, ensuring that their programs and services continue to serve those in need for years to come.”
MPP Parsa and an Ontario Trillium Foundation volunteer visited the organization’s head office in Aurora and spoke with staff. Programs have returned to pre-pandemic levels of service and is preparing for increased demand on services and supports offered including counselling, caregiver support groups, First Link® healthcare navigation services, public education programs, active living programs and DAY programs in Aurora, Stouffville and Thornhill.
As the organization has restored program capacity to pre-pandemic levels, AS York recognizes the growing demand for service and the need to evaluate the infrastructure required to meet the increased needs of residents of York Region. The Resilient Communities grant offered the opportunity to review its revenue generating model, evaluate technology framework and build plans that reflect a post-pandemic environment.
“We are incredibly grateful to be a recipient of an Ontario Seniors Community Grant which will allow us to train and support older adults volunteering in our programs. This funding not only strengthens our ability to deliver meaningful services to individuals living with dementia and their caregivers but also recognizes the invaluable contributions of older adults and encourages opportunities to enhance the physical well-being and social inclusion of all older adults in our communities.” – Kari Quinn-Humphrey, CEO
