Parsa’s Perspective: May 2023

As the month of May begins, I want to take a moment to reflect on the events of the last few months. With the start of a new month comes a renewed sense of hope and optimism — as such, I would like to reaffirm my commitment towards serving you and working to make a positive difference in our community. Holding an elected office is a privilege and I am honoured to have been entrusted with the role of Ontario’s Minister of Children, Community and Social Services. I look forward to broadening the social supports and benefits available to families and ensuring that no one – regardless of age, gender, or socioeconomic status – is left behind.

In this May edition of Parsa’s Perspective, I would like to update you on some of the important initiatives and events currently going on in our community.

I’m happy to share the news that applications for the fall term of Ontario’s Legislative Page Program are open to young Ontarian students until June 15. This program offers a valuable experience for community-involved youth to demonstrate leadership and responsibility through first-hand experience in Ontario’s legislature. Please find more information here: https://www.ola.org/en/visit-learn/programs/about-page-program.

The importance of having family and loved ones form a cherished value in our province. It is what makes our province uniquely resilient. Families establish our beloved communities, and these invaluable ties encourage unity and growth. In connection with the value of family, May 14th marks Mother’s Day, an opportunity to show appreciation for the motherly figures in our lives who are a constant source of unconditional love, encouragement and guidance to all of us. As we approach Mother’s Day, I’d like to recognize and celebrate the incredible contributions of mothers everywhere. I encourage you to honour the women in your lives by expressing appreciation and love, even if it is just a simple phone call.

Near the end of May, we welcome the long weekend through the observance of Victoria Day. This longstanding holiday is dedicated to commemorating the birthday of Queen Victoria. I hope that the opportunity to spend some time with family and loved ones presents itself on this holiday.

As your local representative at Queen’s Park, it is my duty and responsibility to advocate for the best interests of constituents at the legislature.
