Non-Profit Sector Workers Recognized in our Community

Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill — Ontario’s non-profit sector is the largest in Canada, with over 58,000 registered charities and non-profit organizations that offer a wide range of supports from children and family services to mental health service and programs for people with disabilities. More than one million people work in Ontario’s non-profit sector yet many often go unrecognized for their contributions.

Thanks to a Private Members Bill, Bill 9: Non-Profit Sector Appreciation Week, 2021 championed by MPP Daisy Wai and passed by unanimous support, the second Non-Profit Sector Appreciation Week was recently celebrated from February 13-17, 2023.

Throughout Non-Profit Sector Appreciation Week, MPP Parsa connected with volunteers and staff members from essential charity and non-profit organizations in the riding. He visited L’Arche Daybreak, Aurora Legion, and Salvation Army Richmond Hill Community Church to present a certificate of recognition for the hardworking volunteer and staff members.

“The exceptional individuals who work in non-profit sectors are the very heart of our community. Everyday, they shape the lives of individuals, families, and communities, ensuring that every member of community is supported and cared for. Behind every non-profit organization is a  worker who provides essential community services. They represent the best of our province and I’m proud to recognize our community heroes” said Michael Parsa, MPP for Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill.

“We all need to appreciate the hard-working professionals in the non-profit sector, especially during the pandemic period when its services are so much needed and volunteers and donations have dropped,” said Daisy Wai, MPP for Richmond Hill. “The Non-profit Sector Appreciation Week will help ignite the passion and the performance of workers who are understandably exhausted and feeling burned out. We need to celebrate these Invisible Champions in our communities. Their sense of dedication, powered by their personal vision and mission has supported them through many challenges, but our appreciation and support for them will go a long way.”
